Why aluminum swarf needs preparation

Aluminum swarf—also called turnings, machining chips or metal shavings—often leaves machining centers mixed with cutting oil, emulsion, water, fines and tramp material. Its irregular shape and low bulk density complicate storage, transport, automated feeding and remelting.

An integrated line can combine collection, size reduction, centrifugal de-oiling or dehydration, thermal drying, separation, conveying and interfaces to briquetting or the melting furnace. The correct route depends on the alloy, chip geometry, fluid type and target outlet condition.
